[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpcjXj2QX1g&w=640&h=360]Over the past several years, my life has transformed in ways I never thought possible simply by changing my diet. I lost over 40 pounds, ended a lifetime of migraine headache pain and virtually eliminated prescription medicine from my life. It has been an incredible journey for me and my deepest desire is to share my experiences with others to inspire them to achieve "impossible" weight and health improvement, too. California born and raised, I am living the good life in central Wyoming for over 20 years now. I have a wonderful son who is a constant inspiration to me, and a crazy husband who makes me laugh everyday and partners with me in our business, Healthy Changes Now.

We spoke to Nigel Rousell about his incredible journey during the Super Juice Me! 28-Day Juice Challenge and how kicking the sugar worked in more ways than one…
“Well I finished the 28 day Super Juice Me! Challenge and the results speak for themselves…
I wanted to ensure that at 53 years the next half of my life was a healthier one. I always have had an active job, that allowed me to get away with eating crap– but now I have retired and daily life is not as active as the ‘middle age spread’ arrived and took hold. So having done a 7-Day Juice Challenge earlier last year, I decided this January that I needed to break my sugar addiction. So I Super Juiced! myself and at the same time I read Jason’s book ‘Freedom from the Diet Trap’. This helped focus the mind and keep out the terrorists. Anyway, after days 3-5 it got easy and I continued to prepare evening meals for my wife and son without a crumb breaking the seal.
The stats:
Start weight: 224.9lb (102kg)
Belly: 43”
Finish weight: 197lb (89.4kg)
Belly: 39”
Total lost: 27.9lb (or 12.6kg)
Effectively I have lost over 12 bags of sugar. GET IN THERE!
Thank you to Jason and the team for making this possible”.

Dirt is not just good for children. We all need a little need dirt in our lives! — Christiane Northrup, M.D.
When was the last time you had dirt embedded under your fingernails or mud oozing between your toes? If it was recently, then good for you! Research over the last decade or so has shown that the microbes and bacteria in dirt can help boost your immune system and make you healthier and even happier.
Unfortunately, most people today have become germaphobic, using germ-killing wipes, hand sanitizers, and even strong chemicals to clean their homes. But, it turns out that dirt has an important immune strengthening purpose.
A study published in the June 2012 issue of The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology shows that Amish children who live on farms have about a 50% reduction in asthma, allergies, and gut-related disorders compared to children who grow up in more sterile environments.
This is known as “the Farm-Effect.” What’s interesting to note is that seasonal hay fever was first described in the United States in the 1890’s, and by 1920 it was quite common. However, hay fever was rarely diagnosed in the working class population, particularly those living on farms.
The Farm Effect is the corollary — or positive proof — of the “Hygiene Hypothesis,” which states that a lack of early childhood exposure to infectious agents, microorganisms and parasites increases our susceptibility to allergic diseases by suppressing the natural development of our immune systems. (The Hygiene Hypothesis has also been called the “Biome Depletion Theory” and the “Lost Friends Theory.”)
This makes perfect sense. As humans we have co-evolved for millions of years with microbes and parasites, both around and within our bodies. From the time a child is able to crawl, she intuitively knows to get dirty and to put dirty objects in her mouth — it’s a natural way of allowing her immune system to explore her environment.
This routine exposure to harmless microorganisms in the environment, such as soil bacteria, trains her immune system to ignore benign molecules, such as pollen. (By the way, the Farm Effect works the same way for children who grow up with a dog or other pets in the house.)
But, dirt is not just good for children. We all need a little need dirt in our lives!
In fact, doctors are now handing out “park prescriptions” for a range of conditions including heart disease, obesity and ADD.
Soil microbes called Mycobacterium vaccae are proven to have a natural antidepressant effect on the brain.
Lack of serotonin has been linked to disorders such as depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), bipolar and more. Studies show that Mycobacterium vaccae actually mirror the effect that drugs, such as Prozac, have on the brain without the side effects or chemical dependency.
In one study, lung cancer patients injected with Mycobacterium vaccae reported a better quality of life and less stress. This may mean that Mycobacterium vaccae works by stimulating serotonin production, which makes you feel relaxed and happy.
Another interesting bit of research suggests that the brain actually releases dopamine when we harvest food from the garden! This is known as “Harvest High.” Harvest High most likely evolved over 200,000 years ago when hunting and gathering was a means of survival.
When our ancestors found food, a flush of dopamine would release in the reward center of their brains. This means our primitive brains were originally wired to crave healthy foods from the soil. By the way, that same dopamine high – which is similar to the high some people get from drugs or shopping (“retail therapy,”) but is actually healthy for you and your wallet — can be triggered simply by seeing or smelling fresh produce!
If getting dirty makes you happy, what else might it do? Well, it turns out dirt is good for you in more ways than one. Here are some reasons to get dirty:
While many of us don’t live on farms or large plots of land these days, there are ways you can create a modified Farm Effect in your body and in your home, no matter where you live.
How has getting dirty improved your health? Please share your comments with me in the comments section below!

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one out of every three Americans – or an estimated seventy million people! — is affected by arthritis. In fact, arthritis is the leading cause of disability in the United States. Arthritis has been around since ancient times. Prehistoric man and even the dinosaurs had it! It’s a little known fact but Tyrannosaurs (T. rex), suffered from gout, a type of arthritis in which the body generates excess uric acid. It is caused by a diet high in purine, a substance found in red meat. (Other causes of gout are drinking too much alcohol or lead poisoning.)
Many people think that arthritis goes with the territory of aging and that after a certain age it can’t be avoided. As an ageless goddess I am here to tell you that you don’t have to put up with arthritis and the pain and disability it can bring.
Arthritis is a disorder that involves inflammation in one or more joints. It is not just one disease; there are over 100 different forms of arthritis with even more distinct symptoms. Arthritis can affect people at any stage of life.
The most common form of arthritis is osteoarthritis, a degenerative joint disease that causes your cartilage to break down and for bone to rub against bone.
Symptoms of osteoarthritis may include pain and stiffness that develops gradually. The most commonly affected joints include your fingers, knees, hips, and spine. Osteoarthritis less frequently affects the wrists, elbows, shoulders, and ankles. When it does affect one of these joints, it’s usually due to a history of injury or repetitive stress to that joint.
Another common form of arthritis is Rheumatoid Arthritis (R.A.) R.A. is labeled an autoimmune disorder. It affects the synovium, and may also affect other tissues and organs.
Symptoms of R.A. may include painful swelling, inflammation, and stiffness in the middle joints of the fingers and the large joints in the body such as wrists, elbows, shoulders, hips, knees, and ankles. R.A. is typically symmetrical — occurring in the same joints on both sides of the body.
Underlying diseases, such as psoriasis or lupus and even common viruses can cause other types of arthritis. Finally, infections can cause septic arthritis.
In Western culture the standard of care for someone with arthritis includes OTC pain relievers and prescription drugs. The most commonly used drugs are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS.)
NSAIDs – including brand names such as Advil, Motrin, Midol, Aleve, Mobic, and many others — treat pain and also help reduce inflammation temporarily.
They are available over the counter and in prescription strength. Acetaminophen (such as the brand Tylenol) is another pain reliever often used for arthritis. While it may reduce pain temporarily, it has no effect on the underlying inflammation.
Of course, all of these medications have a long list of side effects including everything from stomach irritation to ulcers and even death. NSAIDs affect the kidneys so they should never be used by patients with kidney disease.
They have also been linked to cardiovascular risks, such as heart attack and stroke and increased blood pressure. Acetaminophen is highly associated with liver toxicity and acute liver failure even at a standard OTC dosage!
Patients with R.A. are typically prescribed a myriad of drugs, including steroids, TNF Alpha Inhibiting drugs (Humira and Remicade), disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) such as methotrexate (Trexall) and hydroxychloroquine (Plaquinil), and Biologics, which suppress your immune system. These drugs are some of the most dangerous medications on the market.
They have significant side effects, including high blood pressure, weight gain, high blood sugar, bone loss, nausea, headaches, fatigue, eye damage and liver damage.
Biologics can significantly increase your chance of serious infections such as tuberculosis, pneumonia, psoriasis, multiple sclerosis, and even cancer.
If this all seems like pretty scary stuff to you, you bet it is! If you are taking OTC pain relievers or prescription medications on a regular basis you need to be under close supervision by your doctor, and you may want to consider safer forms of pain relief, such as non-acetylated salicylates – The brand names include Salflex, Trilisate and Disalcid.
Now, there are clearly circumstances where drugs are indicated. In fact, during the holidays I slipped on black ice and hurt my knee. I was in a lot of pain that night and took Naproxen to ease the pain so I could sleep.
But, I know that even when an injury is involved, these drugs don’t get to the root of the problem, so the next day I did a Divine Love session with Bob Fritchie to heal my injury. I was able to avoid taking any additional pain relievers.
While the many forms of arthritis have very different causes, risk factors and effects on the body, they all share a common symptom—persistent joint pain.
Pain of any kind has emotional roots. In fact, studies show that emotional factors are crucial to the development of R.A. The emotions associated with arthritis are usually unexpressed anger, resentment, aggression, criticism (of self and others), lack of support, and fear.
Experts suggest that one reason women are afflicted with R.A. four times more frequently than men is because women are taught from early childhood not to express anger.
It is also not uncommon for people with R.A. to have experienced some sort of emotional trauma, usually before age 5. Traumas that occur when you are young can hinder the development of your immune system and leave you susceptible to infections, such as Epstein-Barr virus, which Medical Medium Anthony William says is an underlying cause of R.A. symptoms.
Where you you experience arthritis in your body can be a clue to what hidden emotion or trauma you’re suppressing. One of my all time favorite books for deciphering the emotional roots of physical pain is Heal Your Body by Louise Hay. You can use it to look up the location of your pain and gain an understanding of what emotion or trauma you may be suppressing.
Here’s how you can get to the root of your arthritis so you can heal:
Remember, even though you may have experienced a painful event, you get to choose how you interpret and respond to it. When you hold on to painful memories, your body reacts with physical pain, hormonal secretions and other stress responses. Own your emotions then let them go. This is the equivalent of taking out the garbage every day. You can also ask that Divine Love assist you with releasing your emotions. I do this every morning.
Getting control of your pain is an important aspect of healing from arthritis. If you don’t address the pain you can become fatigued and even depressed, which takes a toll on your immune system. If you must take a drug, take the safest one possible for the shortest amount of time possible. In addition, try adding one or several of the following alternatives to your pain management routine while you continue to practice releasing the emotions associated with your arthritis.
Here are eight proven techniques and therapies:

Posted From: http://www.drwaynedyer.com/blog/12-step-program-to-simplicity/
Wayne Dyer’s 12-Step Program to Simplicity is excerpted with permission from Chapter 8 of Wayne Dyer’s book, Living An Inspired Life.
For a moment, let’s imagine what it would be like to be fully alive without a physical shell or any of the stuff we need and desire for maintaining life on Earth.
We’d have a mental energy that allowed us to move forward or backward, up or down, instantly creating whatever we desired. We’d be free to wallow in an exquisite existence without time or space as we know it.
We’d be in a state of pure bliss, in love with everything and everyone. We’d have no duties or bills to tend to, no fear of losing anything, no one judging us, no possessions to insure, no demands on our time, and no goals to achieve.
What we’re envisioning is actually the world of Spirit, which we experienced before we came here and will return to when we shed our body (or as William Butler Yeats poetically called it, our “tattered coat upon a stick”).
Remember that a central premise of this book is that inspiration is a state of being here now in this material world, while at the same time reconnecting to our spiritual origins. In order to be receptive to inspiration, we need to eliminate the ego clutter that accumulates all too easily for most of us—after all, if we’re preoccupied with events and activities that have nothing to do with inspiration, we’re unlikely to notice its summons. So in order to achieve a reunion with our ultimate calling, we need to emulate the clear, uncomplicated world of Spirit.
While the theme of this chapter is that inspiration is simple, this doesn’t mean that we should sit around doing nothing, awaiting Spirit’s arrival; instead, it means having faith that our spiritual connection flourishes in a life dedicated to joy, love, and peace. If our daily activities are so overwhelming that we don’t make [joy, love, and peace] our priority, then we’re disregarding the value of living a simple life.
Rather than giving you some general suggestions for implementing the ideas herein, I’m going to give you 12 very specific tools for simplifying your life. Begin using them today if you’re serious about hearing that ultimate call to inspiration.
You’ll feel a real rush of inspiration when you clear out stuff that’s no longer useful in your life:
Get rid of anything that keeps you mired in acquisitions that contribute to a cluttered life.
If you’re unavailable for Spirit, you’re unlikely to know the glow of inspiration. God will indeed work with you and send you the guidance—and the people—you need, but if you’re grossly overscheduled, you’re going to miss these life-altering gifts. So practice saying no to excessive demands and don’t feel guilty about injecting a dose of leisure time into your daily routine.
Be on the lookout for invitations to functions that may keep you on top of society’s pyramid, but which inhibit your access to joyful inspiration. If cocktail parties, social get-togethers, fund-raising events, or even drinking-and-gossiping gatherings with friends aren’t really how you want to spend your free time, then don’t. Begin declining invitations that don’t activate feelings of inspiration.
Give yourself at least 20 minutes a day to sit quietly and make conscious contact with God. I’ve written an entire book on this subject called Getting in the Gap, so I won’t belabor it here. I will say that I’ve received thousands of messages (including the one from Gail Beale, shared below) from people all over the world, who have expressed their appreciation for learning how to simplify their life by taking the time to meditate.
Dear Wayne,
Thank you so much for your presentations and tapes. You are frequently my traveling companion as I drive in my job. I just wanted to add my testimony to the power of Japa.
I was an on-and-off meditator but realized how much more smoothly my days went when I was “on” it. I visited Kenya, Africa, in June of 2002 and met an eight-year-old orphan girl there. As I sat on the ground, she crawled into my lap, and a voice said, “Take her home.” I physically turned around, but no one was there. Again the voice said, “Take her home.” I asked my 18-year-old daughter (who was with me on the trip) what she thought about my adopting this beautiful child. With the quickness of a sprinter, she replied, “Go for it.”
When we returned to the States a week later, I realized that if I didn’t follow through with this adoption, I’d always regret it. Regret seemed much larger than the task of adopting! I began doing Japa each morning, and through a series of miracles, that special little girl was able to come to this country. I named her Nellie, and she has been a blessing to me and my other children.
Nellie’s adoption was part two of God’s plan. Part one had unfolded a couple of years before, when I felt guided to sponsor a series of workshops for which I profited $10,000 with very little time or work. And guess what the final cost of adopting Nellie was? The first time I heard the voice, I chose to disregard it and/or think it through, making lists of pros and cons. But I could not rest until I proceeded with the workshops. That’s how I explained to my family that I needed to proceed with adopting Nellie—obedience had brought abundance into our lives, and now it was time to share that abundance. Nellie has brought the abundance of love and forgiveness into our home. She is truly a treasure.
Thank you for sharing your gift of this wonderful meditation. It changed my life and the life of a little girl.
Sincerely,
Gail Beale
Topeka, Kansas
Gail used her meditation practice to stay connected to her Creator and to be open to having her purpose in life find her— and when a small orphaned child in Kenya crawled into her lap, purpose did indeed find her. Gail calls this “God’s plan,” but she’s actually a piece of God. She came from God, so she must be like what she came from. Hence, God’s plan is her plan, and vice versa. In her meditation practice, Gail heard a voice—that voice belonged to her highest self, the part that never left Spirit, is always inspired, and can be heard when allowed to come through. It’s a voice that lives in each and every one of us, too.
I also encourage you to find a yoga center near you and begin a regular practice. The rewards are so powerful: You’ll feel healthier, less stressed, and inspired by what you’ll be able to do with and for your body in a very short time.
There’s nothing more awe inspiring than nature itself. The fantasy to return to a less tumultuous life almost always involves living in the splendor of the mountains, the forests, or the tundra; on an island; near the ocean; or beside a lake. These are universal urges, since nature is created by the same Source as we are, and we’re made up of the same chemicals as all of nature (we’re stardust, remember?).
Your urge to simplify and feel inspired is fueled by the desire to be your natural self—that is, your nature self. So give yourself permission to get away to trek or camp in the woods; swim in a river, lake, or ocean; sit by an open fire; ride horseback through trails; or ski down a mountain slope. This doesn’t have to mean long, planned vacations that are months away—no matter where you live, you’re only a few hours or even moments away from a park, campground, or trail that will allow you to enjoy a feeling of being connected to the entire Universe.
Choose to align yourself with people who are like-minded in their search for simplified inspiration. Give those who find fault or who are confrontational a silent blessing and remove yourself from their energy as quickly as possible. Your life is simplified enormously when you don’t have to defend yourself to anyone, and when you receive support rather than criticism. You don’t have to endure the criticism with anything other than a polite thank-you and a promise to consider what’s been said—anything else is a state of conflict that erases the possibility of your feeling inspired. You never need to defend yourself or your desires to anyone, as those inner feelings are Spirit speaking to you. Those thoughts are sacred, so don’t ever let anyone trample on them.
Consider that the number one health problem in America seems to be obesity. How can you feel inspired and live in simplicity if you’re gorging on excessive amounts of food and eliminating the exercise that the body craves? Recall that your body is a sacred temple where you reside for this lifetime, so make some time every single day for exercising it. Even if you can only manage a walk around the block, just do it. Similarly, keep the words portion control uppermost in your consciousness—your stomach is the size of your fist, not a wheelbarrow! Respect your sacred temple and simplify your life by being an exerciser and a sensible eater. I promise that you’ll feel inspired if you act on this today!

Posted From: http://www.drnorthrup.com/how-healthy-is-your-poop/
Yep! I’m goin’ there! Despite the fact that we all poop, it is probably one of those subjects that you don’t talk about – even with your health care practitioner. I want to change that because your bowel movements are your body’s natural way of detoxing, and your poop can tell you a lot about your health. In fact, it’s is one of the few reminders you get about your health on a daily basis.
Now, if you are an Ageless Goddess, I know that you are consuming healthy, whole foods. But, how do you know if you are digesting your food well? And what about when things aren’t working properly? Is it something to worry about, such as an infection or a more serious condition? Or, could it simply be due to a change in diet or your daily routine? The only way to really know is to look in the toilet every time you have a bowel movement! That’s because how your poop looks, smells, and is shaped are direct indications of how well your digestive tract is working.
Keeping your digestive tract working well is important to maintaining your overall health. Have you ever been cranky or “off” when you haven’t had a healthy bowel movement? That’s because your brain and gut communicate directly, so that trouble in your gut can lead to trouble with your mood. In fact, an unhealthy digestive tract can lead to an increased risk of many more serious health conditions, including neurological disease, autoimmune disease and chronic inflammation.
Rather than having me describe in detail how your poop should look and smell, you will be happy to know that there is actually a stool form scale called The Bristol Chart. The chart was designed in the 1990’s to be a guide for gastroenterologists. It classifies how your poop looks into 7 categories depending on the time that it takes to form in your colon – or the “transit time.” You can see that numbers 3 and 4 are what is considered normal. If your poop falls into categories 1-2, (constipation) or categories 6-7 (diarrhea), it is considered abnormal. You can use the Bristol Stool Chart to compare your typical poop to what’s considered normal, and learn what may be causing a problem if you have one.
What is interesting here is that diarrhea (types 6 and 7) is classified as “inflammation.” So if you have diarrhea it means you have an inflammatory process going on in your gut. Unfortunately, many people consume a highly inflammatory diet. This can lead not only to bouts of diarrhea, but also to what is known as leaky gut syndrome, and and even what we call autoimmune disease. (I’m questioning the names of these conditions these days because, according to medical medium Anthony William, your immune systems never actually attacks you. And, your gut doesn’t actually leak. But, whatever label you put on these conditions, they have one thing in common: cellular inflammation.) So, if you find you are typically in the 6-7 range of The Bristol Chart, first look at your diet and avoid common inflammatory foods, such as dairy, gluten, grains, soy, sugar and corn.
In addition to how your poop is shaped, you want to pay attention to other qualities. One unhealthy bowel movement is usually not a reason to run to the doctor. But, if you consistently have unhealthy bowel movements, it’s probably worth mentioning to your doctor. Here are some other things to consider when checking your bowel movements:
You know that I am an advocate for giving your body the proper nutrients and environment for healing itself. But, unhealthy bowel movements are a message that something is not working properly and sometimes a visit to the doctor is a good idea. If you have any of the following warning signs, be sure to schedule an appointment with your doctor:
If you have had a recent change in your bowel movements and you don’t have a serious health condition, it can be easy to get things back on track. Here are my recommendations for keeping things moving smoothly:
